    Course structure:

    Listening Module

This elementary level listening module has two main sub-sections. The first one is a conversation between two individuals set in an everyday social context. The second is a short monologue or speech about everyday topics.

    Speaking Module
The Elementary level speaking module consists of:

    • Building confidence
    • Fluency and coherence
Grammatical accuracy
    • Pronunciation
    • Lexical resource

Building confidence allows students the chance to speak and use vocabulary they may have previously found challenging.
Elementary level fluency and coherence helps students speak at a normal speed (speech tempo) without too much hesitation for most simple sentences.  This level also enables student to put sentences and ideas in a logical, coherent order, using cohesive devices (including linking words, pronouns and conjunctions, etc.) to connect simple sentences together appropriately for improved fluency.

Elementary level grammatical accuracy improves how accurately and appropriately grammar is used, focusing mainly on the past tense.
Pronunciation improves the ability to speak in a way that enables an individual to be understood without too much effort.
Elementary level lexical resource gives the students the basic words needed to express meaning. It also helps student to express themselves using alternative vocabulary when they may struggle with recalling some specific words.

    Reading Module
Elementary level reading teaches students to understand texts relevant to basic linguistic devices in English with tasks mainly about retrieving and providing general factual information.

    Students will:

    • identify the main points in a piece of text
    • select the key information relevant to the task or assignment

    Writing Module
Elementary level writing focuses on linking sentences and writing short texts of up to 150 word assignments, and may include letters and describing past events, each with their own organisation and layout.
The students will need to show that they can:

    • structure and connect simple sentences correctly in grammatical English with accurate spelling to ensure clear meaning; and
    • write in their own words, using the vocabulary and expressions

    Vocabulary
The students will gain an elementary level of lexical resources for the most common topics, such as; friends and family, daily activities, interests and travel.

Upon completion, students will be expected to:
Create and answer simple questions related to daily life situations both in oral and written form, as well as pick up information through shorts texts.
